Abstract John Ashe (1720?-1781) was a Major General in the Revolutionary War. The collection contains a draft of a biography of Ashe written by Archibald Maclaine Hooper (1775-1853). The biography includes an account of Ashe's court martial over the Battle of Briar Creek, Ga., and appendices include transcriptions of letters to General Benjamin Lincoln (1733-1810).

John Ashe (1720-1781) was a Major General in the Revolutionary War. He was the son of John Baptista Ashe, and was also the Speaker of the North Carolina General Assembly from 1762-1765.
