Abstract | Malcolm Douglas was a clergyman of Ohio. The collection contains letters from Henry Douglas, United States Army officer, to his brothers, Andrew Douglas, curator of the New York Museum of Natural History, and Malcolm Douglas, Ohio clergyman. These letters were written from Washington Territory, describing the country, flora and fauna, and army duties, 1856; from Ohio, about his promotion, 1866; and from Kansas, about the death of his wife, 1868. Also included are letters, 1885-1886, including descriptions of Chapel Hill, the University of North Carolina, and people on campus, to Malcolm Douglas from Prof. Charles Phillips of the University; and a manuscript catalog, 1821, of the library of Benjamin Hale (1797-1863), president of Hobart College, New York. |
