Abstract | Robert E. Troy was a prominent lawyer in Lumberton, N.C., and served as mayor of the town in 1852. He also was Master of St. Alban's Lodge A. F. & A. M. James Cain (circa 1748-1826) was a resident of Bladen County, N.C. He was wounded in the Battle of Elizabethtown. Colonel Thomas Robeson (1740-1785) led Whig troops in defeating Tories at the Battle of Elizabethtown on 28 August 1781. The collection consists of a typed transcription of a letter, 12 March 1845, originally sent by Robert E. Troy in Lumberton, N.C., to the Robesonian following an interview with James Cain, a veteran of the Revolutionary War. The letter describes the leadership of Whig officer Colonel Thomas Robeson in defeating Tory troops in the Battle of Elizabethtown, N.C., on 28 August 1781. Also includes a photocopy of the typed transcription. |
