Julia A. Voorhees of New York City was the wife of Ricahrd Voorhees and the sister-in-law of writer and politician Lemuel Sawyer of Edenton, N.C.

Two volumes of Julia A. Voorhees's pocket diary, 1867 and 1872. Entries, which are daily and brief, describe especially the writer's activities as a seamstress and her religious life and Episcopal Church activity in New York City. There are brief records of financial matters, letters sent and received, etc., at the back of the volumes. Also included are four letters, 1845-1846 and 1853, among Voorhees, Johnston, and Sawyer family members in Edenton, N.C., and New York, N.Y.
