Hertford County is located in the northeastern region of North Carolina, bounded on the north by the Virginia state line. The County of Hertford was formed by an act of the state legislature in 1759.

The collection includes miscellaneous papers, 1799-1898, relating to Hertford County, N.C., including nine deeds, 1779-1851; one land survey, 1810; and three gauger's reports, 1876, 1889, 1898, to the United States Internal Revenue Department on fruit brandy distilled by J. B. Hare, Tunis, N.C.
