Stuart Hall Hill (1876-1948) was a University of North Carolina alumnus of Halifax, N.C., and Brooklyn, N.Y. In 1925 he compiled an extensive genealogical study, known as "The Hill Family," and consisting of ten bound volumes of typed pages, with pictures and photoprints of manuscripts included. Hill was the son of Thomas Norfleet Hill (1838-1904) of Halifax County, N.C., and also had a brother named Thomas N. Hill, who lived in Asheville, N.C., in the 1920s. His sister Rebecca lived in Weldon, N.C., and his sister Eliza Hill Hall lived in Warrenton, N.C. His mother was Eliza Evans Hall Hill; after her death, Thomas Norfleet Hill married Mary Amis Long, daughter of Colonel Nicholas M. Long of Weldon, N.C.
Stuart Hall Hill was the grandson of Whitmel John Hill and Lavinia Dorothy Barnes Hill; great-grandson of Thomas Blount Hill and Rebecca Norfleet Hill; and great-great-grandson of Whitmel Hill and Winifred Blount Hill.
