Abstract | James Alves Hogg Norwood (1804-1852) was one of eight children of William and Robina Hogg Norwood of Hillsborough, N.C. He graduated from the University of North Carolina, 1824, and was a tutor at the university, 1833-1834; a student of law; and a teacher. The collection includes letters of recommendation written by Elisha Mitchell, William Hooper, and David L. Swain, for James Alves Hogg Norwood, who was applying for a job at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia. |
