Thaddeus Shaw Page (1890-1973) was born in Aberdeen, N.C., to North Carolina congressman Robert Newton Page and Flora Eliza Shaw Page. He was educated at Fishburne Military Academy and the University of North Carolina. Page was secretary to his father in Congress, 1913-1916; an automobile dealer in Aberdeen, Hamlet, and Charlotte, N.C., 1916-1930; secretary to North Carolina Senator Josiah W. Bailey, 1930-1935; assistant to Archivist of the United States R. D. W. Connor, 1935-1943; and administrator at the National Archives, 1943-1960.

A sizeable portion of the letters deal with federal appointments, particularly North Carolinians seeking jobs in the Archives or in other federal agencies. There is some personal correspondence and some correspondence related to Page's involvement in the North Carolina Democratic Party.
This series contains pictures and clippings relating to Page's career and the development of the National Archives. Much of the material is on the Victory Loan Train of 1945 and the Senate career of Josiah Bailey. There are also some miscellaneous personal items.
The majority of the volumes are daily logs kept by Page while serving as Administrative Secretary, National Archives. There are also volumes of minutes of the Archives Advisory Council, Administrative Conference, and General Staff meeting, 1935-1936, and a journal covering the history and development of the National Archives.
