Abstract | The Steed family and Phipps family were united by the marriage of Elizabeth (Bettie) Lundie Phipps (died 1902), a school teacher of Nash County and Harnett County, N.C., and Alexander L. Blount, serving with the 47th North Carolina Regiment in North Carolina and Virginia, 1863-1865, describing camp life, religious activity, and a visit to the Confederate Congress in January 1864. Postwar items include continued correspondence among the cousins. Bettie and Alexander were married by 1870 and much of the later correspondence is among their children, including Mary E.
