Abstract William Davis Jones II (1894-1977) was born in Belton, Mo. After World War I, he worked with various agricultural organizations, chiefly in North Carolina. He was a warehouse examiner for the United States Department of Agriculture, 1936-1950. In 1951, he became director of the Storage and Distribution Division, United States Office of Civil and Defense Mobilization, from which he retired in 1961. The collection includes personal and family correspondence and writings of William Davis Jones II. Included is correspondence between Jones and his son, William Davis Jones III, in Raleigh, N.C.; personal and family history materials relating to the Jones family and the Kitchen family; job applications and employment data; volumes containing essays, diary entries, and copies of outgoing letters; and family photographs.

William Davis Jones II (1894-1977) was born in Belton, Mo., to William Davis and Mary Stella Jones. He attended the United States Naval Academy, 1913-1916, and served with the United States Army, 1917-1918. After World War I, he worked with various agricultural organizations, chiefly in North Carolina and in 1935 was appointed junior agricultural statistician with the Bureau of Agricultural Economics. He was a warehouse examiner for the United States Department of Agriculture, 1936-1950. In 1951, he became director of the Storage and Distribution Division, United States Office of Civil and Defense Mobilization, from which he retired in 1961. He was married to Ruth Culbreth Jones and they had a son, William Davis "Dave" Jones III, an advertising executive and newspaper man.
