Abstract Charles A. Tanner, presumable of Kentucky, had a son, Richard P. Tanner, who served with the 26th Kentucky Regiment, United States Army, in Tennessee and North Carolina. The collection includes family correspondence of Charles A. Tanner, including letters from his son, Richard P. Tanner, while serving with the 26th Kentucky Regiment, U.S. Army, in Tennessee and North Carolina, and from relatives in Kentucky. Letters deal with Union and Confederate pillaging in McLean County, Ky., soldiers' reactions to the surrender of Generals Robert E. Lee and Joseph E. Johnston, and other matters.

The collection includes family correspondence of Charles A. Tanner including letters from his son and from relatives in Kentucky. Letters deal with Union and Confederate pillaging in McLean County, Ky., soldiers' reactions to the surrender of Generals Lee and Johnston, and other matters. There is also a note, 1865, asking Tanner to come to Booneville, Ind., to collect a debt, and a letter, 1865, to Richard P. Tanner from his aunt Susan C. Tanner concerning Charles A. Tanner's health.
