The Records of the Order of the Golden Fleece were transferred to the University Archives over many years. Access to the collection was restricted to members of the Order of the Golden Fleece, a private honor society at UNC-Chapel Hill. After discussing the access restrictions with the Order of the Golden Fleece, the leaders of the organization and the University Archives agreed that the collection materials would be withdrawn and returned to the Order. The collection was deaccessioned and returned in October 2023.
