Abstract The North Carolina Xi chapter of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity was established at the University of North Carolina in 1857. It was the third chapter of the fraternity, which was founded at the University of Alabama in 1856. Records consist of two scrapbooks compiled by Dr. Benson R. Wilcox, who attended the University of North Carolina as an undergraduate and as a medical student from 1949 to 1957, and a membership register containing information on members from 1947 to 1959. The scrapbooks, compiled in 1951-1952 and 1954, include photographs of fraternity members and their dates along with news clippings and telegrams. The membership register includes members' biographical information, including names, home addresses, birth dates, high schools, and majors.
