Jane D. Brown was on the faculty of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Journalism and Mass Communication from 1977 until her retirement in 2012. Her research and writing focused on adolescent exposure to mass media portrayals of sex, violence, and drugs and alcohol. Brown was active in campus-wide committees and served as Chair of the Faculty Council from 1994 to 1997.
