Abstract | Ivan Proctor Battle, born 1880, studied medicine at the University of North Carolina, 1900-1902, before receiving his doctorate from Jefferson Medical College in 1904. Ivan Proctor Battle, born 1880 to George Cullen Battle and Lizzie Philips Battle, was a medical student at the University of North Carolina, 1900-1902, before receiving his doctorate from Jefferson Medical College in 1904.
Back to TopThe collection includes letters, bills, receipts, promissory notes, indentures, and other papers of various persons, apparently all living in the Battleboro, N.C. community near Rocky Mount, N.C. The earliest items principally concern transactions of the Adams family. Nearly half of the items are the papers, chiefly correspondence, of Dr. James Jones Philips (1798-1874), physician, druggist, and farmer, of Battleboro, Edgecombe County, N.C. There are a few Battle family papers.
Notable correspondents include Thomas Bragg Jr., Henry Adams, A. K. Barlow, James J. Philips, G. W. Philips, B. F. Moore, and E. A. Vogler.
