Abstract | Cornelius Harnett (1723-1781) of Wilmington, N.C., was a leader of revolutionary activity in North Carolina and a delegate to the Continental Congress. The collection contains letters from Harnett in Philadelphia, Pa. and York, Pa., to his friend and neighbor, William Wilkinson, of Wilmington, N.C., containing messages for Mrs. Harnett, information on provisions and prices in the North, political and military news, and occasional comment on the work of the Continental Congress. |

Cornelius Harnett (1723-1781) of Wilmington, N.C., was a leader of revolutionary activity in North Carolina and delegate to the Continental Congress. Harnett represented the borough of Wilmington, N.C., in the General Assembly, 1754-1775, and in the Provincial Congress, 1774-1776. In 1777 he was elected a delegate to the Continental Congress and served until 1780.
