Abstract | A. G. Magrath (1813-1893) was a Confederate governor of South Carolina. The collection contains chiefly correspondence, 1864-1865, during Magrath's tenure as governor of South Carolina, concerning military and economic problems of the South during the Civil War, military movements in Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina, and other related topics. Andrew Gordon Magrath (1813-1893) was a Confederate governor of South Carolina. After the Civil War, he was imprisoned at Fort Pulaski, Ga., and upon release practiced law in Charleston, S.C. He was the son of John and Maria Gordon Magrath.
