Abstract | Robert Smith Phifer was a professor of music at women's colleges in North Carolina and Virginia. The collection includes scattered correspondence, recital programs, clippings, and other papers. The bulk of the collection consists of programs of concerts and recitals at the Danville Academy of Music, Roanoke Female College, Danville College for Young Ladies, Charlotte Female Institute, and Chester Female Academy, Chesterfield, Va. There is very little correspondence; the few letters deal primarily with Phifer family genealogy and with memberships in social clubs. |
