Abstract | Members of the Potter and Platt families lived in Brunswick County, N.C. Robert Potter became a merchant in 1806, was elected to the North Carolina House of Commons in 1812, and later became a justice of the peace. The collection includes papers of Robert Potter and his Potter and Platt relatives, chiefly antebellum legal papers dealing with lands; various certificates; receipts; a few family letters; and other papers. A diary, 1806-1828, of Robert Potter is an occasional, brief record of major events such as storms, an earthquake, the Embargo of 1807-1809, trips, and deaths. |
