Abstract | Henry Elliott Shepherd of Fayetteville, N.C., was superintendent of schools in Baltimore, Md., in the late nineteenth century. The collection includes miscellaneous papers including a summary of an address, "The Place of North Carolina in American History," focusing on the contributions of James Cochran Dobbin (1814-1857), secretary of the Navy, 1853-1857, delivered by Shepherd to the North Carolina Society of Baltimore, Md., undated; four letters from H. E. Shepherd to Mrs. R. P. Pell, Spartanburg, S.C., 1928 and undated; a letter from James C. Dobbin to Catherine Dobbin, Fayetteville, N.C., 1838; a note of instructions from James C. Dobbin to John [W.?] Dobbin, 1842?; and numerous newspaper clippings about Dobbin, Shepherd, and other topics. |
