Rebecca Wilkinson Street (1780-1833) was born in New Kent County, Va. She moved with her husband, George Street, to his home in Hanover County, Va., in 1802, and then to Kentucky in 1819. The couple had nine children, at least three of whom died between 1824 and 1830. Following her husband's death in 1831, Street and her four youngest children moved to Jacksonville, Ill., to live with her brother, John Parke Wilkinson.

The original deposit is an unascribed 20th-century biography of Rebecca Wilkinson Street that incorporates her poems and other sources. The Addition of October 2010 is a 110-page volume of poems, written by and in the hand of Rebecca Wilkinson Street. The poems, many titled "Sonnet" or "Hymn," document the inner life of a wife and mother. Street often mentioned her husband and children by name in her poems, especially in reference to birthdays, illness, and death. Other themes include religion, occasions, friends, and nature.
