Back to TopThe collection contains chiefly letters to Mary B. (Mrs. Andrew) Syme. Almost all letters are requests, made initially to various North Carolina state government offices, for verification of military service of an ancestor to support application for membership in ancestral or patriotic societies. Many of the letters included genealogical data in connection iwth the requests. A small portion of the itmes are carbon copies of Syme's outgoing mail, including typed statements concerning Revolutionary Army service, lists of land grants, and miscellaneous citations from other government records.
