Abstract | Nathan Wilson Walker was a professor of education, dean of the School of Education, and director of the summer school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The collection includes a collection of sample standard intelligence and other tests; scrapbooks of clippings, one on general literary subjects, 1908-1912, and one on schools, 1907-1921; and accounts and other items of George Wesley Johnson, a general merchant of Farmington, Davie County, N.C., 1837-1855, and of members of his family, including two letters from Francis Marion Johnson (born 1837), a student at the University of North Carolina, 1856-1857, discussing college life and family matters. |

Nathan Wilson Walker (1875-1935) was a professor of education, dean of the School of Education, and director of the summer school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Walker was a graduated from the University of North Carolina, 1903, was superintedent of the Asheboro, N.C., schools, 1903-1905, and joined the faculty at UNC in 1905. He was appointed dean of the Education Department in 1921. He also served on the State Board of Educational Examiners, 1907-1917, was president of the North Carolina Teachers Assembly, 1918-1919, and edited for a time the High School Journal.
George Wesley Johnson (fl. 1837-1855) was a general merchant of Farmington, Davie County, N.C.
Back to TopThe collection, gathered by Nathan Wilson Walker, includes a collection of sample standard intelligence and subject tests in Latin, arithmetic, grammar, punctiation, and other areas; scrapbooks of clippings, one on general literary subjects, 1908-1912, and one on educational matters including schooling in foreign countries, 1907-1921; papers pertaining to the North Carolina Teachers Assembly, 1918, High School Journal, and University of North Carolina administrative affairs; and some correspondence.
The collection also contains accounts and other items of George Wesley Johnson, a general merchant of Farmington, Davie County, N.C., 1837-1855, and of members of his family, including two letters from Francis Marion Johnson (born 1837), a student at the University of North Carolina, 1856-1857, discussing college life and family matters. The Johnson papers also include letters mentioning prices for furs and food items.
