Abstract | Thomas Webb was a lawyer, state legislator, and president of the North Carolina Railroad Company, of Orange County, N.C. The collection includes family papers of Webb, including letters, chiefly 1845-1850, deeds, and other items. Papers dated 1770-1839 are miscellaneous receipts, deeds, indentures, plats, and other items relating primarily to Jones and Randolph counties, N.C. Correspondence includes letters about politics in Hillsborough and Fayetteville, N.C., in the 1840s; a series of letters, circa 1850, from William Webb, brother of Thomas Webb, describing his life in St. Louis, Mo., and attendance at a medical convention in Cincinnati, Ohio; letters, 1860, from Thomas Webb to his wife describing life at Kittrell's Springs, N.C., a health resort; and other family letters. Also included are a notebook containing hymns with muscial notations and lyrics, and poems, 1846-1850 and undated, some by Thomas Webb; and a list of subscribers to the Soldiers' Aid Association of Orange County, N.C., in 1862. There are no Civil War letters and few items related to Webb's activities as lawyer, legislator, or railroad president. |
