Abstract | James Jones White (1828-1893) was a captain in the 4th Virginia Infantry Regiment of the army of the Confederate States of America. The collection includes letters from James Jones White to his wife Mary, chiefly written in Virginia early in the Civil War. White wrote of camp life, military duties, troop movements, the battles of First Bull Run and Harpers Ferry, and the Christian character of General Stonewall Jackson. Also included is one letter written from White Sulphur Springs, Va., in 1860. |
