Abstract | Montgomery D. Corse (1816-1895) served as a general in the Confederate States Army during the Civil War. He was born and died in Alexandria, Va. The collection contains photostatic copies and typed transcriptions (originals retained by private owner) of a letter about personal circumstances from Richard Henderson Junior, St. Thomas, West Indies, to Sally Henderson, Bladensburgh, Md., 1764; a Confederate officer's commission; two letters from N. R. Fitzhugh, Cavalry Division, Army of Northern Virginia, 1863 and 1864, about troop movements, plundering in Pennsylvania on the way to Gettysburg, and impressions of Robert E. Lee; and three letters to Mrs. M. D. Corse in Charlottesville, Va., from Richmond, 1862 and undated, about the condition and treatment of a soldier and other matters. |
