Abstract | John George Walker (1822-1893) of Missouri was a major general in the Confederate Army. The collection includes chiefly official correspondence received by Major General Walker concerning military operations in Louisiana, and letters from Edward Porter Alexander in 1866 concerning Albert G. Meyer's military signal system. The military correspondence includes a letter from Stonewall Jackson, 1862; letters concerning strength and movements of federal forces, 1863-1864; and news of the situation at Vicksburg, Miss., 1864. |
