Abstract | Thomas Pollock Devereux (born circa 1845) of Wake County, N.C., was a Confederate soldier in the 2nd Corps of the Army of Northern Virginia during the last months of the Civil War. The collection consists of "From Petersburg to Appomattox," recollections, 1912, by Thomas Pollock Devereux concerning his experiences with Grimes's division of the 2nd Corps of the Army of Northern Virginia during the last months of the Civil War, 18 pages carbon typescript; and a letter, 1878, from R. W. Pulliam, Asheville, N.C., to Thomas P. Devereux, state solicitor, about the case of North Carolina vs. George William Swepson and Milton Smith Littlefield, a case of railroad fraud during Reconstruction in North Carolina. |

Devereux describes his military service near Petersburg, Va.; the surrender at Appomattox, Va.; and his return journey to Wake County by way of South Boston, Va., and Oxford, N.C. Also included is a letter, 1878, to Devereux's grandfather of the same name, Thomas P. Devereux, state solicitor, from R. W. Pulliam, Asheville, N.C., seeking to be excused from testifying in the case of State of North Carolina versus George William Swepson and Milton Smith Littlefield, a case of railroad fraud during Reconstruction.
