Abstract | Francis A. Boyle (1838-1907) of Plymouth, N.C., was an officer in the 32nd North Carolina Infantry Regiment who was captured and sent to Point Lookout, Md., May 1864. He was subsequently transferred to Fort Delaware, Del., June 1864, where he became involved in the Christian Association of Confederate Prisoners, later called Confederate States Christian Association for the Relief of Prisoner. The collection includes records of Francis A. Boyle as a Confederate officer in federal prisons, including a diary, 1864-1865, of Boyle's experiences as an officer of the 32nd North Carolina Infantry Regiment fighting in Virginia and imprisoned at Point Lookout, Md., and at Fort Delaware, Del.; minutes, constitution and by-laws, membership lists, and other records of the Christian Association of Confederate Prisoners at Fort Delaware, later called the Confederate States Christian Association for the Relief of Prisoners, 1864- 1865; and typed transcriptions of two 1904 autobiographical letters. |
