The collection contains family correspondence, almost entirely letters between Gold and his wife, Julia Pipkin Gold, before they were married and later during intervals when they were separated, containing mainly family and Primitive Baptist religious news. |

Pleasant Daniel Gold (1833-1920) was a colporteur and hospital nurse during the Civil War, elder of the Primitive Baptist Church, and editor of "Zion's Landmark," a Primitive Baptist publication published in Wilson, N.C.; from Cleveland County, N.C. Gold attended Furman University and the Southern Baptist Seminary. He married Julia Pipkin (fl. 1863-1865) of Goldsboro, N.C., in 1863.

There are also some letters from their children, a picture of Pleasant Daniel Gold, a facsimile of the Declaration of Independence, and a Duplin County deed, 1778, in the name of William Whitfield, Jr.
