Abstract | Margaret Isabella Walker Weber (born 1824), a white woman, was the daughter of Caroline Mary Mallet and Carleton Walker. The collection contains reminiscences of Walker's childhood at Moseley Hall, a plantation near Wilmington, N.C.; Walker's Hill, a plantation in Chatham County, N.C., and in Hillsborough, N.C. The reminiscences also describe her school days, chiefly in Hillsborough; marriage to Professor Johannes Heinrich Christian Frederich Weber (born 1812), a German immigrant; experiences teaching school in Columbia, S.C., and in several places in Tennessee, including Columbia and Nashville; and some data on the Walker, Mumford, Mallet, and Moseley families. |
