Abstract | Mary Bayard Clarke (1827-1886) was poet and novelist of North Carolina and Texas. The collection includes handwritten works by Clarke: "Chalmette: A Tale of Creole Life in Louisiana," an unpublished novel; "'Tis Early Morning--e'er the Sun," a 36-page poem; and a letterpress copybook containing not letters, but essays and poems, most of which are on Civil War themes. |
