Abstract | R. H. Smith Thompson was a first lieutenant in the Confederate States Army, serving as Assistant Chief of Artillery to General Bragg in 1863. The collection is a notebook kept by Thompson entitled "Gummere's Surveying commenced 8 December 1855," containing exercises and problems in geometry, algebra, and surveying, and an essay, "The Earth as a Result of Development," speculating on the geological evolution of the planet Earth. |
