Abstract | Brothers Wilbur Wright and Orville Wright are credited with the invention of the first successful airplane. The collection includes typed versions of articles by newspaper reporters covering Orville and Wilbur Wright's flights at Kill Devil Hill, N.C., 6-15 May 1908. These are photoprints of the typescripts used by the telegraph operator at Manteo, N.C., when he relayed these articles to the newspapers involved. |

These are photoprints of the typescripts used by the telegraph operator at Manteo, N.C., when he relayed these articles to the newspapers involved. The reporters included D. Bruce Salley, William Hoster, P. H. McGowan, and Byron Newton. There are also photocopies of selected pages of a contract, 10 February 1908, between Wilbur and Orville Wright and Captain Charles S. Wallace, Signal Corps, United States Army, to manufacture and deliver one heavier-than-air flying machine for $25,000.
