Abstract | Katherine Clark Pendleton Arrington (1876-1955) of Warrenton, N.C., was the daughter of Major Arthur S. and Victoria Louis Pendleton. Through her mother she was related to several prominent Virgina families. She was president and chief organizer of the North Carolina State Art Society, a trustee of the University of North Carolinaa, and a member of several women's clubs and patriotic societies for descendants of various groups. This collection primarily contains materials from Katherine Clark Pendleton Arrington's investigation of her own family's genealogy. Approximately half of the correspondence comes from the papers of Charles Arthur Hoppin, a New York City genealogist employed by Arrington. The collection also contains photocopies of documents, including wills and deeds, from the 16th to 18th centuries. There are also writings in the collection by Arrington and Hoppin about the ancestries of the Pendleton and Clark families, reminiscences of Victoria Louis Pendleton about the Civil War, Reconstruction, and prominent clergy of various faiths, and a variety of other genealogical materials, including charts, notes, and data. Families notable in the collection include Clark, Hardee, Lanier, Pendleton, Sampson, Washington, and Wright. Katherine Clark Pendleton Arrington (1876-1955) of Warrenton, N.C., was the daughter of Major Arthur S. and Victoria Louis Pendleton. Through her mother she was related to several prominent Virgina families. She graduated from Hollins College in 1896. She was married to Peter Arrington (d. 1916), the director of the British American Tobacco Company. Arrington was the long-time president and chief organizer of the North Carolina State Art Society; a trustee of the University of North Carolina, from which she received an honorary degree in 1947; and a member of several women's clubs and patriotic societies for descendants of various groups.
