Abstract | William F. Atkinson of Goldsboro, N.C., traveled to Switzerland, 1868-1869, to recruit immigrant laborers to work as planters in North Carolina. The collection includes a report (26 pages) by Atkinson to the North Carolina Immigration Association of his trip to Switzerland; records of his travel expenses; and an undated, detailed statement of evidence of loyalty to the United States by a North Carolinian. Atkinson's report indicates that he returned to Goldsboro with sixty-two persons. |

Atkinson's report indicates that he returned to Goldsboro with sixty-two persons. There is also an undated, detailed statement of evidence of loyalty to the United States during the Civil War by a North Carolinian and an enumeration of losses and damages incurred from a visit of Sherman's cavalry to his property.
