Romeyn Beck Ayres (1825-1888) of New York was a United States Army officer. Ayers graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point, N.Y. in 1847. He was sent to Mexico as a member of the artillery, but arrived too late to have any part in the war except garrison duty. He continued in the Army, having various assignments chiefly in the west and southwest, and took a prominent part in the Civil War in the campaigns in Virginia, 1861-1865.
