Abstract | Mary Ann Covington Wilson (fl. 1850-1875) was a school teacher of Cleveland County, N.C. The collection includes family correspondence of Wilson, consisting of letters and poems, 1850s, from a suitor, Ephraim L. Wilson; letters from her partly disabled husband, Thomas M. Wilson, while he was on limited military service at Kinston, N.C., during the Civil War, 1864-1865, mostly concerning his health; a few antebellum and Civil War letters from unionist cousins in east Tennessee; and postbellum correspondence from various relatives who were school teachers, laborers, and farm tenants in Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois, and Arkansas. |
