Abstract | George Gegner (fl. 1864-1865) was a federal soldier who served with Company H, 130th Regiment, Indiana Volunteers. The collection includes letters from Gegner, while a federal soldier during the Civil War to Lizzie Wayman, at home in Alexandria, Ind. The letters were written while Gegner's unit was advancing on Atlanta, Ga., from Tennessee and then returning; they describe marches, engagements, foraging expeditions, reactions to Lincoln's death, conversations with paroled Confederate officers, and other matters. |
