Abstract | Joseph B. Harrell (born 1826) of Southampton County, Va., was a soldier in the Confederate Army. The collection includes a typed transcription of the diary, 5-24 April 1862, of Harrell while camped with Southampton County militia near Norfolk, Va. The diary consists primarily of religious meditations and morose reflections on illness and death in camp and the upheaval of war. |
