Hanson Finla Murphy (1813-1882) was a physician and member of the North Carolina Constitutional Convention, 1865-1866, and county court. Murphy was the son of Cornelius Murphy and Catherine Murphy. He attended Donaldson Academy, Fayetteville, N.C., and studied medicine under Dr. Benjamin Robinson of Fayetteville. He also attended the University of Pennsylvania, 1839-1840, and Columbia College, Washington, D.C. He later practiced medicine at South Washington in New Hanover County, N.C., and Wallace in Duplin County, N.C. He finally settled at Mt. Holly Plantation near Burgaw in Pender County, N.C. He was married to Elizabeth Ann Simpson (1824-1915) and they had twelve children.
