Abstract | David McMichen Lees (1807-1872) was the son of William Lees and Jane Lees of Mecklenburg County, N.C. He graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1829. The collection includes five family letters, 1825-1829, to and from David McMichen Lees while he was a student at Ebenezer Academy, Iredell County, N.C., and at the University of North Carolina; scattered later family letters; undated orations and essays by Lees, at least some of which were written while he was a college student; and genealogical data about the Lees (later Lee) family compiled by Ellie P. Grier of Charlotte, N.C. |

David McMichen Lees (1807-1872) was the son of William Lees and Jane Lees of Mecklenburg County, N.C. He graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1829. In more recent years, the family name was spelled Lee. The University of North Carolina Alumni Catalog spells the middle name McMicken.
