Abstract | Alfred H. Martine (fl. 1862-1865) was an agent in Beaufort, N.C., for Martine and Emerson, a firm of Massachusetts merchants that traded with the United States military at New Bern, N.C., and in other federally occupied areas of North Carolina. The collection includes government permits, business letters, accounts, bills of lading, and other papers of Martine relating to his work as an agent for Martine and Emerson. The firm was run by Martine's brother, Charles F. Martine, and a partner, R. H. Emerson. |
