Abstract | William Henry Boyce of Bangor, Me., served in the United States army during the Civil War. The collection includes typed copies of letters from William Henry Boyce, while a federal soldier serving with the 15th Maine Regiment, to his mother and a brother. These letters were written chiefly from near New Orleans, La., and Pensacola, Fla.; they describe military engagements, food, accommodations, social matters, troop movements, and other matters. The collection also includes a newspaper clipping of a posed photograph of Union Army officers, possibly taken at a reunion, with the caption, "Remember?" |

William Henry Boyce (died 1923) of Bangor, Me., served in the 15th Maine Regiment, United States army in the Civil War. He later lived in North Carolina and South Carolina where he started a harness business. He also lived in Pittsburg, Pa., and Terre Haute and Indianapolis, Ind. After an injury on the horse track, he went to work for Standard Oil in New York, N.Y.
