Abstract | Oscar Malachi Styron (1838-1865), of Princess Anne County, Va., and Enfield, N.C., was a Confederate soldier serverely wounded in 1862. The collection includes a letter, 7 December 1864, from Styron at Enfield, N.C., to his parents telling of his plan to take charge of the farm of ex-governor Charles Manly (1795-1871); three letters, 1866 and 1869, from Charles Manly to Styron's widow, Mary Elizabeth Burroughs Styron, describing Manly's circumstances after the Civil War; and a biographical sketch of Styron describing his wounds as a Confederate soldier, written in 1966 by his granddaughter, Sade C. Styron. |
