Abstract | Leander M. Studwell was an officer of Studwell Brothers and Company, shoe and boot manufacturers, of New York, N.Y. The collection is a record made by Studwell during an investigatory tour of the state, of the financial worth, reliability, prospects, and reputation of retailers at 38 locations in North Carolina. Towns to which three or more pages are devoted are Concord, Charlotte, Greenville, Greensboro, Henderson, Louisburg, New Bern, Plymouth, and Washington. The volume also includes an index of towns visited and a summary of North Carolina laws related to collecting and handling claims. |
