Abstract | Barlett Shipp Johnston (born 1845) of Baltimore, Md., was a Confederate navy midshipman. The collection includes personal letters received by Johnston chiefly concerning Confederate veterans' activities and Civil War reminiscences; and recollections written in 1908 (6 pages), by his brother, Brigadier General Robert Daniel Johnston (1837-1919) of North Carolina, concerning cavalry fighting in Virginia in the latter part of the Civil War; and newspaper clippings, chiefly concerning the Civil War and members of the Johnston family. |

Barlett Shipp Johnston (born 1845) of Baltimore, Md., was a Confederate navy midshipman. He was the son of William and Nancy Forney Johnston of Lincoln County, N.C., and brother of Joseph Forney Johnston (1843-1913) and Robert Daniel Johnston (1837-1919).
