Abstract | Frederic Stafford (died circa 1857) and members of his family resided in Orange, Guilford, and Alamance counties, N.C. The collection inlcudes correspondence and scattered papers of Frederic Stafford and of his family in Orange County, Guilford County, and Alamance County, N.C. The bulk of the collection consists of letters received, 1844-1879, from relatives in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, and Texas, concerning family news and local conditions. Represented are the Wells family of Morgan County, Ill.; Thomas Stafford, son of Frederic Stafford, and his family of Clay County, Ill., Neosho County, Kan., and North Springfield, Mo.; and the Moffitt family of Thomasville, N.C. Many letters were written to Nancy (Stafford) Shoffner, wife of Michael Shoffner, of Alamance County, N.C. Volumes include a small booklet of home remedies. Also included are notes and receipts. |
