Abstract | William J. Creasey (born 1822) of Newburyport, Mass., was an officer in the 23rd Massachusetts Infantry Regiment and was involved in General Ambrose E. Burnside's invasion of eastern North Carolina, 1862. The collection includes a diary, 16 October 1861-29 July 1862, kept by Lieutenant Creasey while he was serving with the 23rd Massachusetts Regiment off the coast of North Carolina and near New Bern and Goldsboro, N.C. The entries include information on military engagement, forts and other defenses, camp life, and other matters. |

William J. Creasey (born 1822) of Newburyport, Mass., was an officer in the 23rd Massachusetts Infantry Regiment and was involved in General Ambrose E. Burnside's invasion of eastern North Carolina, 1862. Creasey resigned from the army in July 1862 and returned to Newburyport.
