The North Carolina Emergency Relief Administration was a division of the Federal Emergency Relief Administration (FERA), a New Deal program enacted to alleviate adult unemployment.

The collection includes typed analyses, tables, and summaries compiled by North Carolina Emergency Relief Administration statistician Hugh P. Brinton. The compilations include the number of individuals and families receiving assistance in each county, with data concerning gender, race, age, financial history, employment status, and medical care. There are also some loose mimeographed items such as instructions issued to the county offices for the case workers gathering data and sample blank forms used for recording the data.
